Wiring

Got the engine and forward light harness mostly figured out.  Installed the fan… Getting closer to firing it up.

Just some pics

Some pictures of the current status… Oct 2012.

Engine Accessories

The Alternator and Power Steering were mocked into place.  Still need some spacers for the alternator bolts but it’s in the correct spot. Did inventory and found the inspection cover for the flywheel.  Have 2 starters to get tested.  Did some painting…horns look new.  Other pics are just random ‘How things look now” pics…

The Engine is IN!

Installed the restored brake distribution block and installed all new front brake lines from the master cylinder to the wheels.

Got the flywheel resurfaced at a machine shop on 14th street in Plano.  Ben and I got the engine off the stand and onto the crane then got it mounted in the engine bay.  No issues at all and we were able to bolt the motor mounts in just a few minutes.  The Engine is IN!

Preval Spray Gun

I am in love with this portable spray gun.  I used the Preval System with some POR-20 Heat Resistant Aluminum paint to spray the Edelbrock Performer intake and the Bell-housing.  The POR-20 paint was thick, so I had a concern that the Preval wouldn’t be able to lay it down consistently….I was wrong.  It sprayed well, although somewhat messy….paint was all over the sprayer and bottle and my gloves.  There are breather holes in the cap so the ‘gun’ needs to stay verticle for the most part otherwise some paint may leak.  I learned the hard way.  Having said that, it laid down in 2 nice even coats and once again, the parts look great.

More Engine

Applied the 2nd coat of POR-15 Hemi-Orange paint.  Also managed to pick up an Edelbrock Performer Aluminum intake from the same guy that I got the flywheel/bellhousing from.  Topped off with a Holley and it’s looking like an engine.

Engine Paint

Got the POR-15 engine primer and 1st coat of Hemi-Orange spread on the engine.

Mopar Performance Valve Cover Restoration

I decided to sandblast the Mopar Performance Valve covers and restore them.  After blasting them, I used a red scotch-brite pad to scuff them.  I then coated them with some black VHT (Very High Temperature) header paint that contained ceramic chips.  After that dried, I used some 220-grit, 400-grit, 800-grit and finally 1000-grit paper to get the chrome below the letters and fins shine.  After that, they were  coated with some VHT clear.  They came out looking GREAT.

Began cleaning & degreasing the engine

To prepare the 360 for a new coat of paint, I ordered the Hemi-Orange engine paint kit from POR-15.  The kit comes with a cleaner/de-greaser, some primer and the hemi-orange paint as well as some gloves and brushes.  After using the de-greaser and some wire brushes the engine just didn’t look great.  I got a tip from a friend (thanks Fronk) about using Easy-Off.  Tried that and it worked like a charm.  It removed all kinds of dirt and grease and even paints.  The block was cleaned and scrubbed with Easy-Off.  Then I removed the old camshaft and lifters.  I installed a new Mopar Perfomance Purple Shaft cam with new lifters as well as a new Cloyes double timing chain with gears.
