Glove box trim
Painted the Glove Box trim Black with Chrome paint lettering/fish. Not perfect, but the best I can do with my old eyes and small brush..
Dash bezel and Glove Box trim
Since the theme has turned into a candy red and gloss black… I sandblasted and cleaned the dash and glove box bezel. They were worn out an either needed fixed or replaced. In case you haven’t looked at the price of replacing the dash bezel recently, I decided to fix/paint them. They will be gloss black with silver hightlights as seen by the Wiper piece.
Good Progress
Made good progress today. Ben fabricated a support brace for the 4-speed z-bar. This reinforces the inner fender wall area where the stud attached to the ball-stud comes through. It was welded to the inner fender and also the frame rail…and provides a stronger brace than the factory one. It was fabricated out of 2 pieces of angle iron and a solid piece of steel to connect them all together. After it was welded and re-installed, I sprayed it with an undercoating so that it would just ‘disappear’.
Re-installed the steering column and all of the steering components. Need to order Outer Tie-Rod ends.
Shifter Modified and installed
Shortened the shifter by about 2 to 2.5 inches and drilled 2 new holes. Installed and fits perfectly.
4-speed floor hump
The 4-speed floor hump showed up today from Classic Industries. Now I just have to measure twice, cut once and weld. Also, finally picked up the frame side ball stud for the z-bar pedal linkage. Things are getting closer…
Sandblasting
Sandblasted the motor mounts and clutch fork at Ben’s house. After a coat of chassis black on the motor mounts and some POR-20 Aluminum on the clutch fork, they look new.
Decided to attempt to grind off the welds holding the console mounting brackets. The plan is to sell the complete automatic transmission setup as a whole. That includes the 727 automatic transmission with torque converter, the floor section that I’ll be cutting out and replacing with a 4-speed floor, the console with brackets, the automatic shifter with linkages and the automatic pedal assembly. However, while attempting to liberate the brackets, I’m actually doing a better job at cutting thru the floor, so I decided to keep them attached to the floor for now and attempt to make some kind of template to cut out the section for the factory 4-speed hump…
