Front Drums to Disk Brake conversion…
Bought a disk brake conversion from PirateJack.net and used their adapters and instructions… Overall, the conversion went well….only minor injuries. Had to shave down the castle nuts for the upper control arms as they were just a little too thick and couldn’t be tightened down enough to expose the cotter pin hole. After that, no issues at all.
New rear axles
Removing the old small bolt pattern (SBP) axles and replacing them with Dr. Diff A-body Big Bolt Pattern (BBP) axles. This looks like it will fix the rear brake drum rubbing issue and I should be able to remove the washers behind the drum that were necessary for clearance. This also means that the current rims will no longer work, so I’m not on the lookout for new ones…
Passenger front fender stripped…
Started by sandblasting and quickly realized that was not going to work… brought out the Harbor Freight $10 grider and some 24-grit discs and went to work. Took a couple hours, burned up a grinder and a package of discs, but it’s done….sort of. Six coats of paint seem to help keep the metal in good shape…
Driver side door – paint strip + primer
Stripped the drivers door using a combination of Aircraft paint stripper and a 36-grit disc on my handheld grinder. The aircraft stripper seemed to only remove the paint that had been added over the factory red. I had to grind the factory paint off. 3-hours.
New Carb
Replaced the carburetor with a new Holley 650 CFM and it solved all of the issues that existed with keeping an idle. Runs like a champ now.
New tank installed
Installed the new fuel tank, pickup and filler grommet but kept the original strap since there was nothing wrong with it and it fits like a glove. Putting this tank in was a slight pain in the ass as getting it to slide in while also manipulating the filler tube into the new grommet sucked. It took some geometry and some technique, but it went.
New Tank
The new gas tank has arrived with the complete kit. Tank/filler grommet/strap with hardware and pickup with hardware. Good value from Ebay (In my opinion)… Shout out to tomsclassic eBay Store. The link to his eBay store is:

Little self-etching primer
36-grit grinding disks used to remove paint on the drivers door jam area…. and some rattle can self-etching primer (for now) to cover the bare metal.
Drivers side quarter….stripped
Stripped the drivers side quarter panel. Less paint on this body panel as it appears to have been replaced at some point. Only a few minor injuries to my hands… and one burned up grinder.
